I love The Apprentice – the tv programme that sets out to find an apprentice for Lord Sugar by settings the candidates a procession of gruelling weekly challenges. The rules are simple, the weakest link is fired at the end of each task. Read more on the apprentice at http://www.bbc.co.uk/apprentice/
Each week we see the candidates struggle to appoint the ideal Project Manager (PM) who will be responsible for leading them to victory. And 9 out of 10 times we will agree that the failure of the task is usually directly attributable to the ability of the PM to manage the team and resources effectively.
Like the Apprentice candidates, any activity or service we undertake in our lives or businesses is normally constrained by three elements: time, scope and cost. Stay on top of these three elements without compromising on quality and you will succeed in whatever you endeavour.
Some questions to reflect on this week:
Are you managing your time effectively or is “procrastinator” your middle name?
Do you know your numbers – are your activities coming in within budget?
Is the quality of your products and services meeting and exceeding your clients expectation?
and finally ……….
Will you hire or fire yourself as your business’ project manager?
