This week I wanted to talk about how to go about finding solutions to pressing business issues.
Our instincts when things aren’t working is to stay behind the computer and work harder at the problems, thinking that we could some how crack the solution code by some sheer force of will. But is working harder the same as working smarter? More activity must amount to a great outcome, surely?
What if I told you that you are more likely to find the solutions to your problems when you take a break, go for a walk, do some gardening (you don’t have to wait for the sunshine) or do whatever it is that keeps you sane. Having a break from what is troubling you is a master stroke of genius in getting it solved. Some people like to sleep on problems and are well rewarded when they wake full refreshed with the answer.
Isaac Newton didn’t discover gravity whilst sitting in his office staring at a screen or note book. Folklore has it that he was sat under an apple tree enjoying some time out by the river.
There is now science backing up the importance of taking time out to rejuvenate the body and the mind. Check it out – it really is all around us.
You’ll make better decisions when you’ve given your brain the time and space to process all the information you’ve been throwing at it.
So take your problems with you and go for a walk. You might just come back with solutions.
I’d love to hear how you solve your pressing business issues; so please leave a comment below.
