Happy New Year

I hope you managed to have a break over the holidays and the year is off to a great start? I spent part of the holidays in 35 degrees weather in Ghana. Sadly, we went to say goodbye to Grandad Makavo who my son was named after. We also managed to turn an otherwise sad occasion into a memorable one for the kids.

2016 was an incredibly busy year for me with lots of ups and downs as I know it would have been for you. It was a year filled with opportunities and alongside those opportunities were the usual suspects – challenges!

I could not have taken advantage of the opportunities without facing and slaying a few dragons on the way! (You can tell I’ve now been watching too many superhero movies! 6-year-old Makavo is fascinated with saving the world!)

How you feel this January will have a lot to do with how you dealt with those challenges.  You may be excited about the year ahead but you may also be a bit apprehensive about what it might have in store for you and whether you have what it takes to achieve your goals.

I’ve good news for you.

However 2016 was for you, whether is was a rubbish year, a mediocre one or an amazing year doesn’t really matter because as they say with investments, past performance is not indicative of future results.

You’ve been gifted with another opportunity to give a year your absolute best shot. Sadly not everyone got this opportunity.

And ultimately what happens in 2017 is up to you.  2016 was just a great foundation for 2017 and all the lessons learnt last year will stand you in good stead for creating success this year.

So as we start the year,

1. Grab the year with gratitude, appreciating it for the gift that it is.
2. Start the year with honest feedback from trusted people within your team or network. Be real with yourself about what stopped you from achieving your goals last year
3. Decide what you are going to do to overcome your challenges this year?
